7.30pm What are human beings capable of inflicting on each other? The limits have not been reached as far as seasoned detectives Jim O'Brien and Chris Enright are concerned.
They left the question hanging for more than 150 people who turned out on Thursday 29th May for Inside Story, a series of talks hosted by the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.
Opening the evening was the recounting of Melbourne's 1988 Walsh Street murders of Constable Damian Eyre and Steven Tynan, who were ambushed in South Yarra, lured to their deaths by reports of an abandoned car in the middle of the road. Participants were shown graphic images of the gun shot wounds the two officers received on the night. It was said that situations in which police were called on to use their firearms were never easy and led only to trauma and tragedy.
The next instalment of Inside Story will be held in August on a date yet to be confirmed. Tickets will be available from Expressions Gift Shop. |
