Psychiatric Services

Psychiatric Services is values driven and, with our established consumer and carer support programs, aims to provide excellent services to patients living with a serious mental illness.

The new Bendigo hospital comprises a 80 bed psychiatric inpatient unit, which includes a mother-baby unit, adult inpatient unit, older persons inpatient unit and a extended care unit.

Psychiatric Inpatient Services 

Inpatient services include Adult Acute, Older Persons Acute and Extended Care beds. A new Parent & Infant Unit providing antenatal, postnatal, parent, and infant mental health assessments and management will also open with the new Bendigo Hospital. 

Psychiatric Community Services 

Community bed based services include Community Care Units (CCU), Adult Prevention and Recovery Care (APARC) and Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) programs. 

Bendigo Community Mental Health Teams (includes Loddon Campaspe and Southern Mallee) are comprised  of a number of multidisciplinary teams who together provide a service day a week, extended hour community based care to persons experiencing mental illness.

Teams are structured around age specific groupings:

  • Child/Adolescent 0 -17
  • Youth 18 - 24
  • Adult 25 - 64
  • Older Persons 65 +

New Bendigo Hospital 

The Bendigo Hospital Project (BHP), a $630 million Victorian State Government project, is the largest regional health redevelopment in Victoria and will provide the people of Bendigo and surrounding areas with one of the best regional hospitals in Australia.
