Over 1000 babies are born in the Bendigo Health Maternity Unit each year.  The unit is on Level 3, Stanistreet House and has 17 ante/postnatal beds, three family birthing suites and three traditional birthing suites.

Family birthing suites are available to women whose pregnancy has been assessed by an obstetrician as low risk.  Women and their partners can stay together after the birth in the suite for 24 hours.

The average length of stay in hospital for a vaginal birth is 48-72 hours and 96 hours after a caesarean birth.

The hospital provides a domiciliary midwifery service.  All women are offered a home visit by a midwife to support a smooth transition from hospital to home.
