Service description:
Occupational Therapy services improve the independence and the productivity of patients, in areas such as self-care activities, work, leisure and play.
Occupational therapists assess:
- A patient's ability to perform their chosen occupation(s). This includes their physical, cognitive and psychosocial capacity
- The environment(s) in which a patient performs their occupation(s) e.g. home assessments
- The unique ways in which individuals participate in occupations
Occupational therapy sessions:
- Enable people to participate in their chosen occupations by building their skills and capacity; providing education; providing equipment to assist them and by modifying environments
- Promote health and well-being through encouraging people to engage in occupations that enhance health
Occupational therapists working in mental health are concerned with understanding and addressing:
- The occupational performance needs and issues of people who are at risk of mental illness, or experiencing mental health problems
- The ways in which people's environments support and restrict their occupational performance, development and recovery
