Community Mental Health Services (Bendigo):
There are a number of community mental health services located in Bendigo. These services are available to people of all ages and include specialised services for children, adolescents, adults and aged persons. They are split into three distinct service groups and these are:
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
- Adult Community Mental Health Service
- Aged Persons Mental Health Service (APMHS)
The adult mental health service is further divided into distinct teams that offer a full range of services from screening and assessment to long term case management, all to provide continuity of care. These teams are:
- Regional Triage Service/Psychiatric Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team
- Continuing Care Team
- Mobile Support and Treatment Team
- Early Psychosis/Early Intervention Service
- Dual Diagnosis Service
- Primary Mental Health Service
- Eating Disorders Service
- Depression and Anxiety Research Team
Adult services and children's services are based at the John Bomford Centre (part of Bendigo Health) at Strathdale, in Bendigo. The aged persons service is based at the Anne Caudle CentreCampus of Bendigo Health.
Eating Disorders Service:
The Loddon Campaspe Southern Mallee Eating Disorders Service (EDS) is located at the Centre for Rural Mental Health, Arnold Street Bendigo. It consists of a team of clinical psychologists and a consultant psychiatrist, who work together with general practitioners across the region to treat people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
The Eating Disorders Service provides education to GPs in detecting and managing eating disorders, as well as ongoing consultation and support in treating people with eating disorders.
Clinical psychologists provide treatment to people aged 17 years and over with eating disorders who are motivated to engage in treatment. The Primary Mental Health Early Intervention Team can provide treatment for milder cases, with support from the EDS program.
Education and support is also provided to clinicians of the Adult Mental Health Service, and to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, who see people with eating disorders who are under 17 years.
Referrals can be made by General Practitioners via regional psychiatric triage - 1300 363 788.
Inpatient Services:
Inpatient services are all located in Bendigo with the exception of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service inpatient services which are provided by the Austin Hospital in Melbourne.
The Aged Person's Mental Health Service inpatient unit is the Marjorie Phillips Unit located on the Anne Caudle Centre Campus of Bendigo Health. This unit provides an assessment and treatment service to people over 65 who require inpatient management.
The adult acute inpatient service is the Alexander Bayne Centre which is located on the Bendigo Hospital Campus. This unit provides acute treatment services to people under 65 who are unable to be safely treated in a community setting.
Vahland House which is located in Holdsworth Road is the site of the Community Care Units and the Extended Secure Unit. These units provide treatment and long stay options to people who are severely disabled by their mental illness and require long term inpatient rehabilitation.

The clinicians working in these teams provide a full range of service from assessment to long term case management. There are clinicians attached to each team who work in each of the age specialities of aged persons mental health, adult mental health and child and adolescent mental health, thereby providing a full range of community services across the life span.
