Stomal Therapy nurses provide direct and supportive care for inpatients and outpatients and support the work of their health care colleagues.

Patients undergoing surgery for the formation of a stoma (an ingestive opening made in the body, usually just a small aperture) have very individual needs and demand specialised care.

The service assists individual ostomy patients (who have had colostomy or ureterostomy operations, for example) with rehabilitation to build their confidence so they can resume their previous independence.
