Palliative Care Services

Bendigo Health provides an integrated palliative care service, which includes Community Palliative care, a Regional Palliative Care Consultancy service, Day Hospice, and an Inpatient Hospice service is also available. All services have access to a bereavement program.

Our Services

Community Palliative Care

Community Palliative Care service works with people who have a terminal illness, their families, carers and the community in promoting and providing choices in quality palliative care. It is a community-based team servicing the Greater City of Bendigo and Loddon Shire. The team liaises and works in conjunction with other community-based services to provide holistic care. The service is available to anyone, of any age, with a diagnosis of a terminal illness. The service is provided seven days a week. 

Day Hospice

The Chum House Day Hospice offers palliative care clients and their carers a supportive environment which aims to improve their quality of life and well being with social interaction and enjoyable activities.  Palliative care is provided to people of all ages who are suffering from a life threatening illness.

Inpatient Hospice Unit

The Hospice and Evaluation Unit is an18 bed unit that supports both the palliative and geriatric patient. The unit provide specialist palliative care to patients with a life threatening illness who are no longer having acute care and can include - end stage care, symptom relief (including radiotherapy), and respite. The unit also provides specialist geriatric services to individuals who have chronic or complex conditions associated with aging, cognitive dysfunction, chronic illness or disability. The client group are predominantly, but not limited to older people with a primary treatment goal of maximising health status and optimising living arrangements. Regional referrals are accepted. 

Loddon Mallee Regional Palliative Care Consultancy Service

Is a regional consultancy service providing primary and secondary consultations to patients and families with complex palliative symptoms including patients with cancer, degenerative neurological disorders, end stage chronic illness and other palliative diagnoses. The team works in collaboration with all health care professionals and general practitioners across the region in order to facilitate early and appropriate referral and subsequent interventions, for patients for whom the goal of treatment is palliative.  We are also involved with co-ordinating/facilitating access to appropriate services including specialist community care and inpatient beds across the region.
