Bendigo Health diabetes educators provide:
- Education for inpatients, outpatients, community patients and/or carers regarding self-management, lifestyle modification, equipment supply and maintenance
- Consultant lectures for Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE (BRIT) and the Collaborative Health, Education and Research Centre (CHERC)
- Inservice education sessions for staff at all campuses of Bendigo Health, and other health care services such as residential aged care facilities
- Health promotion and diabetes awareness addresses to community groups, service groups and schools
- Liaison with general practitioners and other health professionals regarding patient care
This service can be accessed by a general practitioner's referral, self referral or by allied health staff. Telephone, letter or verbal information is acceptable.
Bendigo Health is the sub-agent for the National Diabetic Services Scheme, providing blood testing strips, urine testing strips, syringes and pen injection needles at subsidised rates for those registered with the scheme. This service can be found at 48 Queen Street in the centre of Bendigo.
The Diabetes Education Unit is on Level 1 of the Hyett Building within the Bendigo Hospital.
