Bendigo Health provides a range of community services with a focus on assisting older people, and people with chronic and disabling conditions, to remain living at home as long as possible.
Bendigo Health services vary from district nursing (which is provided within the area of Greater Bendigo) through to Case Management Services and Carer Support Services which are provided throughout the Loddon Mallee Region from Gisborne to Mildura. The latter programs can be provided in many smaller communities because Bendigo Health has staff located in regional centres and towns throughout the region.
Bendigo Health is proud of being innovative and strives to respond to changing community needs. Examples of new services include:
- The Hospital Admission Risk Program - Chronic Disease Management program. This program assists people with chronic conditions to manage these in their own home and to avoid unnecessary hospital attendances
- The Commonwealth Carelink Centre which helps older people find the services they need to assist them to remain independent
- Regional Aged Care and Assessment service (ACAS) Waiting List project. This project aims to improve/streamline in access to high and low care residential age care placements and Community Care packages across the region
- Chum Street Day Hospice. Chum Street Day Hospice provides day activities and support for people in the last stages of life, within a community setting. This is an innovative partnership with the Uniting Church
