To ensure ongoing care, planning for a patient's discharge from hospital begins in the Pre-admission Clinic (for non-emergency patients) before they are admitted and continues during their stay in hospital.  The patient and their family or carer are encouraged to discuss the patient's needs with the nursing staff.  Discharge is between 9.00 am and 10.00 am(except for Day Procedure patients).  A discharge lounge is available for patients' use, on Level 1 Stanistreet House. Entry is via the Outpatients Department or Hyett reception entrance.  Transport must be organised beforehand to assist discharge at this time.

Before the patient leaves hospital, information about medications, pain relief, diet and safe levels of activity to aid recovery are provided.  The patient is also advised when they need to see their local doctor.

Staff in the Admissions and Bookings office are available to help the patient fill in any forms.

Emergency patients are discharged from the Emergency Department and given appropriate information prior to discharge.
