What the clinic does

The Oncology Unit is a day-stay unit providing a wide range of chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological response modifiers and symptom support.

 

Services are provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis to patients within the Loddon Mallee region and parts of the Goulburn Valley, Wimmera and southern New South Wales.

 

Patient care is planned through a team process. Staff work closely with the radiotherapy unit, social workers, dieticians, district nurses, breast care nurse, general practitioners, palliative care and other specialist services.

 

The medical oncologists encourage close liaison with referring practitioners and are available for discussion and advice.

 

Patient care is provided by a multi-skilled team consisting of:

  • Medical oncologists, palliative care physician, haematologist, medical oncology registrar and intern
  • Clinical nurse specialists and oncology nurses who are specialists in chemotherapy administration and management
  • Allied health professionals - dietician, social worker
  • Pharmacist
