The Bendigo Health Intensive Care Unit is a contributor to the most successful intensive care clinical trials group in the world, with Julie Smith as our research nurse.

We have two clinical trials approved and recruiting.

• ARISE
  ARISE is a trial that compares Early Goal Directed Therapy (EGDT) with Standard Care in the treatment of severe sepsis, this involves Emergency Department patients with severe sepsis in the first 6 hours of ED admission.
• Refeeding study
  Critically ill patients with Refeeding Syndrome will be randomly allocated to receive one of two different versions of standard care:
  • continued normal caloric intake or
  • reduced caloric intake.
