The Chum House Day Hospice offers palliative care clients and their carers a supportive environment which aims to improve their quality of life and well being with social interaction and enjoyable activities. Palliative care is provided to people of all ages who are suffering from a life threatening illness and require assistance.
Chum House Day Hospice addresses the particular individual and social needs of the palliative care client to reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety, increase self esteem, maintain as much independence and autonomy as possible and to normalise and maintain their quality of life, for as long as possible.
Respite for client and carer, support, activity, stimulation, exercise, socialisation and education are all achieved through day hospice programs. The programs are informal and client driven, embracing the concepts of group work, while taking into account an individual's needs.
An informal, social atmosphere has been created within the day hospice. Chum House Day Hospice provides a friendly 'around the kitchen table' approach in its activities, involving clients, carers and the community in decisions.
Staff, volunteers and clients at Chum House agree on activities they would like to do and programs are available to help with symptoms, such as improving nutrition and appetite program as well as a program for fatigue management.
