The Bendigo Health Pathology Services provides a service to the hospital 24 hours a day. Requests from GPs or specialists are accepted during collection hours.

Please note: Pathology rules have changed and all pathology requests can now be accepted.

Bulk billing: All tests performed in the Bendigo laboratory are bulk-billed and are paid by Medicare and/or a private health insurance fund.
Please bring Medicare/private health insurance card. 

Some tests may be sent to Melbourne for specialised testing. Some Melbourne laboratories may send an account for these tests.

Collection hours (except public holidays):

Bendigo hospital campus:
Monday to Friday 8.00am –6.00pm
Saturday 8.00am - 12 noon

John Bomford campus – Condon Street
Monday to Friday 8.30am – 12.30pm. 

Appointments are required for the following range of tests: Therapeutic venesection, bone marrow biopsy, Mantoux test, synactin test and lactose tolerance test. Please phone 03 5454 8950 to make an appointment.

Glucose Tolerance Test: Fasting is required from 10pm the night before the test. Please allow two and a half hours for this test to be performed. It is asked that patients remain in pathology during this time. 

Glucose Challenge in Pregnancy: Does not require fasting. The test takes 75 minutes to perform.

Fasting: For all tests requiring fasting, please fast for 10-12 hours prior to the test, water is acceptable during this time.

Results: Test results will be sent directly to the GP or specialist.
