Hospice and Evaluation Unit

The Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients with a life-threatening illness who are no longer having acute care. The Hospice and Evaluation Unit comprises of ten hospice beds and eight geriatric evaluation and management (GEM) beds.

What we do

Hospice care can include end stage care, symptom relief (including radiotherapy), and respite.

Hospice provides a service that recognises, respects and responds to individual needs of the terminally ill person and those who support them.

It assists the patients with preventing or reducing pain and alleviating other symptoms, as well as offering a realistic opportunity to die in a home-like environment.

Who we care for

The Evaluation Unit hosts patients admitted for Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) who have chronic or complex conditions associated with aging, cognitive dysfunction, chronic illness or disability.

The client group are predominantly, but not limited to, older people with a primary treatment goal of maximising health status and optimising living arrangements.

A management plan is developed thorough regular assessment and management of functional and psychological needs to work towards negotiated goals within time frames.
