Adventure awaits in the Loddon Mallee for Allied Health professionals such as Social Worker, Teagan Anketell
Teagan Anketell was looking for a change in her professional life following the birth of her second child.
The Grade Three Social Worker wasn’t searching for a drastic change but she was definitely up for a challenge that fitted in with being a mother to young children.
While on parental leave, Teagan researched what opportunities were available at Bendigo Health, where she had worked for a rewarding 13 years
What she discovered was the Allied Health Leave Reliever Pool Pilot, managed by the Loddon Mallee Local Health Service Network (LMLHSN).
The pilot is about ensuring the wellbeing of Allied Health staff by helping to cover leave by establishing a dedicated team of relievers across seven Allied Health professions.
Funded by the Victorian Government, the pilot offers Allied Health professionals the prospect to advance their careers. This is an opportunity for grade 1 staff to move into grade 2 roles. In addition, team members will develop a broader scope of practice by being exposed to a variety of settings across the network.
The initiative brings together a pool of Exercise Physiologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Radiographers, Social Workers and Speech Pathologists.
Teagan was the first staff member to join the Reliever team, and several others have followed in her footsteps.
“I could see the potential of the reliever role - the variety of clinical exposure across the Loddon Mallee region, the different settings, meeting new people and learning from others,” Teagan said.
“It really is about challenging myself to learn more and adapting to new environments. I’m excited about getting on the road and seeing what’s out there!”
Clinicians who join the reliever pool can travel across the network to 12 LMLHSN health services, ranging from major hospitals to small health centres.
Travel time is fully paid, with the pilot invests in professional development, offering a development bonus, protected study time and regular clinical supervision so reliever staff feel supported and confident in their roles.
