Management of Osteoarthritis (MOVE)

Management of Osteoarthritis via Exercise and Education is a group based program for individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis. Participants undergo sixteen one-hour exercise sessions, and four half-hour education sessions at our Eaglehawk campus.

What we do

This group aims to:

  • Improve your understanding of Osteoarthritis – risk factors, symptoms and treatment
  • Help you manage your Osteoarthritis without surgery
  • Develop an exercise program aimed at improving your pain and function

Who we care for

We provide individualised assessment and group treatment for individuals with diagnosed osteoarthritis of the hip or knee.

Current national and international clinical guidelines strongly recommend patient education, exercise and weight loss as first line treatment for these conditions.

Classes are run in a positive, supported environment, with a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist administering the session.

How to access this service

External referrals are welcome from General Practitioners or Consultants via regular referral templates to Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, requesting involvement in the MOVE Group.

Internal referrals from Bendigo Health clinicians are also welcome.

Commonly asked questions

Is there a cost?

  • Yes. Each session will cost $6. This covers both the exercise class and the education session.

 Is there parking available?

  • Yes. SCCRC has ample free parking, close to the entrance of the building

I may require joint surgery. Am I appropriate for this group?

  • Yes. This group aims to achieve similar outcomes to joint replacement surgery, with fewer risks. Participation does not exclude you from surgery.
