Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC)

What we do

Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) is a 10-bed facility that provides 24-hour treatment and support for young people aged 16 to 25 years, living in the Loddon Mallee Region.

YPARC is coordinated by Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Services in partnership with MIND Australia. The service is a 10 bed community based facility that functions as a short term “step up” (from the community) or “step down” (from hospital) residential stay to either prevent further deterioration of mental state and/or to further assist with recovery. The service has a psycho-social program to promote recovery and rehabilitation.

Who we care for

YPARC provides treatment and support to young people who are experiencing mental health issues.

The service service is a short-term, recovery focused residential service for people who are either leaving acute mental health care, or who would benefit from 24-hour support to avoid a hospital admission.

Clinical service overview

YPARC is a 10-bed purpose built unit with a maximum stay of 28 days to work on stabilising a patient's mental state and working toward their recovery goals.

Clinical governance for YPARC is provided by the YMHT Consultant Psychiatrist. The program is staffed by Mental Health Services clinicians on day and evening shifts, 7 days a week in conjunction with 24/7 staffing by MIND Australia.

YPARC provides treatment and care for youth aged 16 to 25 years (adolescents who are in the 16-18 age bracket residing in YPARC will generally be case managed by CAMHS). Youth need to reside or work in the LM catchment area and be agreeable to admission to YPARC, with recovery goals. YPARC program caters for youth with moderate to severe mental illness and youth that are at risk of becoming seriously unwell to the point of requiring an admission to an acute in-patient unit. A person needs to be able to receive treatment and support safely and effectively within a community based residential service setting.
