Diabetes Education Service

The Diabetes Education service provides information, education and clinical care to people diagnosed with diabetes and/or their carers.

What we do

We aim to:

  • help those with diabetes through education and management strategies
  • provide education for inpatients as well as outpatients.

Who we care for:

We care for people who have a diagnosis of Type 1 & 2 diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, diabetes in Pregnancy, Steroid Induced Diabetes (SIDM) and Paediatric Diabetes.

How to access this service

Your specialist at Bendigo Health, or your GP must make a referral to our service, please see your GP to organise this.

Our Clinics and Services

  • Individual appointments with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator® (CDE) Provides education for people with all types of diabetes inclusive of type 1, type 2, diabetes in pregnancy and paediatric diabetes.
  • Ambulatory insulin stabilisation program Educates people on initiation of insulin and provides opportunity for insulin adjustment
  • Insulin pump service
  • Continuous glucose monitoring service This service provides continuous glucose monitoring over a 7 day period to assist in the optimal management of blood glucose control
  • Teaching and training for our hospital staff
  • HARP diabetes educator.
  • Diabetes in Pregnancy Clinic
    Multi disciplinary clinic for all pregnant women with either pre-existing or gestational diabetes.
  • Diabetes High Risk Foot Clinic
    Multi disciplinary services for people with significant complications and foot pathologies, peripheral neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease due to diabetes.
  • Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Clinic
    Multi disciplinary clinic and support and education for people of school age or up to the age of 20 with diabetes.

  • Teacher Education Days
